Shadow Weave Table Runner Pattern

This table runner was designed as an exploration of shadow weave’s qualities: it is both simple—it requires only four shafts—and complex—one threading can provide many patterns when treadled in different ways.

Shadow weave is a block weave that allows four blocks on four shafts, which puts it in an elite group that includes overshot and crackle. Unlike those two structures, shadow weave does not rely on a supplemental weft thread for patterning, but rather two alternating, structural wefts (a dark and a light) interlacing with alternating dark and light warp ends. Each block is defined by which shaft the dark warp end is threaded on.
